This blog is for my friends - and their friends - a resource for random comments mostly focused on nutritional information, but would include related areas of overall health, exercise and attitude. I am dedicated - and have always been - to helping anyone who asks about any of these subjects, and if I don't know the answer, I will find it for you. So, ask away...m.

Another snowy day...
I'm from Texas, but it's not just here - there is snow EVERYWHERE! I just returned from Denver, where we celebrated my dad's 86th birthday (Happy Birthday Dad!); it snowed every day I was there (four), and we spent each day playing cards and eating birthday cake balls, cupcakes, pies and cookies. We celebrated his birthday every day, and it was a lot of fun. However...sitting around playing cards does not burn the calories from all the goodies, and by the time I got home I had gained three pounds - in four days!!! What do they do in Alaska!!!! So of course I headed straight to the gym, cut back my carbohydrates and slowed down on the wine - but I did not starve myself or eat nutritious stuff that I didn't like; I did eat my three small meals and three small snacks, and I drank LOTS of water - and guess what - I've already lost two pounds! Yes, you can take a little time off; you just can't take a lot of time off. Taking a little time off is actually good - you get to splurge, be lazy and drink wine - how great is that! But you have to be disciplined and get back on your program - you know what it takes to look and feel good, and, honestly, it feels better than your splurging self. So get yourself back to the gym, or bundle up and get some fresh air; you'll get your metabolism back up and your weight back down! Enjoy your week - Melissa
